Feeling Like The Problem? - with Psychotherapist Nicole Cutting
🧠If you constantly feel like the problem, read this.
Gaslighting does not always look dramatic. It rarely does. It is subtle, gradual, and often comes from someone whose positive traits make it easy to dismiss the warning signs.
Nicole Cutting, BABCP Therapist, outlines five signs worth paying attention to.
Your memory is questioned so often that you begin to trust their version of events over your own. You are told repeatedly that you are too sensitive, too dramatic, making too big a deal of things. You rehearse conversations in your head before having them, out of fear of being made to feel irrational. You find yourself defending their behaviour to friends and family, even when you are the one who is hurt and confused. And the blame consistently finds its way back to you, leaving you wondering if you are the one causing harm.
That last one is particularly important. Because one of the most disorienting effects of gaslighting is that it makes the person experiencing it question their own perception of reality.
If any of this feels familiar, that recognition matters.
