🤍Most people with compulsive sexual behaviours do not seek support until something significant has happened. A major loss. A partner finding out. By that point, shame has accumulated over a long period, and the circumstances of disclosure have typically added to it considerably.
One of the most significant clinical shifts in this space is reframing compulsive sexual behaviour as a psychological pattern rather than a moral failing. Not because accountability is irrelevant, but because shame as a primary driver tends to delay help-seeking and reduce the likelihood that someone stays in treatment.
Non-judgmental environments, whether a therapy room or a group workshop, allow people to recognise that they are not alone. That what they are experiencing has a name, a clinical context, and a way through it. That type of environment changes how people relate to their own experience, and often marks the beginning of real movement.
This is a topic that rarely receives the clarity it deserves. Dr Manpreet Dhuffar-Pottiwal brings both research depth and clinical directness to a conversation many people need to hear.
