👶 Meet Psychotherapist Sarah Wheatley
Sarah Wheatley shares her work as a perinatal psychotherapist and parent–infant therapist, supporting individuals and families from before pregnancy through to early childhood. She reflects on the variety and depth of this work, and how early relationships, emotional wellbeing, and lived experience all play a vital role in family life.
Sarah’s journey into psychotherapy began with early training in artificial intelligence and psychology, before moving into social research and community health. Her own experience of struggling with becoming a mother to her first son led her to retrain as a therapist, after finding that the explanations she was given did not fully capture the emotional and psychological complexity of her experience.
Sarah Wheatley is trained in a range of specialist approaches, including Video Interaction Guidance (VIG), Newborn Behavioral Observations, EMDR, and infertility counselling. In this conversation, she reflects on what she has learned over the past 15 years, and why creating compassionate, reflective spaces for parents and families remains central to her work.
