“I know I need to do something but I just cant seem to follow through” “I feel like my own worst enemy” This is not self-sabotage. It is your brain and your nervous system trying to protect you. Your brain is constantly scanning for threats, not just physical, but social and emotional threats too. Neuroception is the nervous systems built-in threat detector. It is always working in the background, going off when there is danger. Sometimes it gets triggered by small movements that are not actually a threat. This is why you might find yourself avoiding something that you know matters to you. This is not a weakness, but your body’s highly intelligent system doing its best to protect you. In situations where you feel unease, your system panics, even if logically you know it is okay. Your body returns back to old habits and learned behaviours, leading us to think that we are self-sabotaging. Because the nervous system often overrides logic when it feels unsafe, "mindset work" alone is insufficient to facilitate change. To do so we can engage in: - Nervous system regulation - Trauma reprocessing and parts work You are not self-sabotaging. You feel threats and are reacting based on your how you have in the past.
